Where is Mrs. Sorenson?

As I'm sure you've heard, it's Miss Heney's "solo week" for student teaching. This is an important part of the semester, and she is doing a great job! We've been sharing teaching responsibilities gradually since the beginning of the school year, preparing her for this solo teaching experience. So, what does this mean for Mrs. Sorenson?

Since parent-teacher conferences are happening next week, report cards are coming! And with report cards comes lots of assessment to see exactly how students are doing. So, I've been pulling students out of the classroom for reading assessments this week. It's been great to hear everyone read--they have made so much progress! Report cards will be sent home the day before your child's scheduled conference time to give you a chance to review it before we meet.

I do stop in regularly during the day to see how everyone's doing and to say hello. I just can't stay away--it's not nearly as much fun being outside the classroom! I like to be where the action is. :-) Today I stopped in during literacy station time and took a few quick photos...

The "Puzzles and Games" station includes a game called Very Silly Sentences. Miss Heney tells me it's been a hit!
These students are adding the November Chicken Soup with Rice  poem to their Poetry and Song notebooks.
The Writing Station is full EVERY day. We LOVE writing!

Students can make a cornucopia in the Art Station this week to connect to Miss Heney's unit about Thanksgiving.

The Loft Station is always popular--the "Upstairs Library" is a GREAT place to read!

  1. The loft seems to be a fun way to have a special spot for reading, I know Alex feels it is a privlege to go up there. I have been in several times for reading and think there is so much improvement from reading last year, it's awesome to see the kids sounding out words themselves!
