Homework starts tomorrow!

Your child will bring home his/her first homework assignment tomorrow (Monday). Homework will be sent on Monday and is due by Friday of the same week. You and your child can decide a homework schedule that works for you. Math is the only homework that needs to be returned to school. 

For SWR (our spelling/word study program), you will receive a skills list each Monday with information about the letter/sounds, word family (phonetic) words, and red words (words you can't sound out) we are working on that week. This week's list will have a "Spelling Menu" on the back, which are suggestions for ways to practice our SWR skills at home. Finally, your child will begin bringing home a book bag at least once this week. Please have your child read this book to you and then return to the book bag to school. I encourage you to read with your child every day--this includes time that you read to your child.

SWR/Math homework should take no more than 20 minutes per day. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about the first grade homework routine. It's meant to be a way to help your child establish good homework habits and to share the things we're doing at school!
