Getting ready for Step-Up Day!

So, tomorrow's the big day when students will meet their new teacher! I will meet my new first grade class, and the first graders will go visit their second grade teacher. It's an emotional time--it's hard to say goodbye, yet it's fun to begin new adventures. Recently, students made a class book entitled, "The Scoop about First Grade." The book was written to the incoming first graders to let them know what to expect next year. It was a great way to look back upon our time together. I will read it to the new class tomorrow. We also sang an old favorite that students learned way back in September...here's the video. I hope to show it at Step-Up Day tomorrow! We started and ended the year with an ice cream theme! :-)

Summer Birthdays...

We will celebrate all of our summer birthdays tomorrow afternoon--my treat! The students who have a summer birthday will each decorate a birthday crown and we will ALL enjoy a yummy surprise...

Field Day 2010

What an absolutely perfect day! I am so glad that all students were healthy and able to attend Field Day today. It sure seemed like everyone had a great time! Here are a few pictures from our day...these and more are included in the slide show below. Thank you to all those parents who were able to join us today. It was a nice way to celebrate the fun we've had in first grade this year!
Group picture--I think the t-shirts look great!

Field Day!!!!

Hooray! Tomorrow is Field Day at Airport Park! Just a few reminders...
  • Sunscreen: Make sure your child is wearing sunscreen when he/she comes to school. It is not supposed to be hot, but it will be sunny!
  • Drinks: Children are busy at Field Day and will need extra water/juice/etc. Please pack enough fluids to last the day.
  • Snack: We will have a snack time when we get back to school in the afternoon. We won't have a morning snack as we usually do.
  • Lunch: The 1st grade lunch time is 11:30 a.m. Even if you can't come for the rest of the events, please join us for lunch if you wish!
  • T-shirts: Our t-shirts look great! I washed them and have them at school for your child to change into tomorrow morning before we leave for Airport Park.
  • Time: Field Day is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or so. If your child will go home with you from Airport Park, please send a note to school in the morning (or email me: sorensone@csdvt.org)

Bike Trip=FUN!

Our bike trip was a complete success! THANK YOU to everyone for getting your child's bike to school or Airport Park. Thank you also to those who were able to come with us on the trip. This trip would not have been possible without you! I couldn't take many pictures (biking and photo taking don't mix!!!), but here are a few....

Our Class, June 2010

I took a bunch of class photos today for a 1st grade memory book students will be working on between now and Thursday. I took a bunch of photos and couldn't decide which to put on the blog. So here's a fun slide show of some of the pictures! They are all very much alike...just slight differences. Enjoy!

Bike Ride Rain Date

Thank you, volunteers, for being willing to be so flexible in our trip scheduling. As written in the note sent home today, we now have a rain date for our field trip. I know the students are very excited for this trip and many have worked extremely hard to learn to ride their bike or getting better at riding in preparation for our trip. It is always an excellent way to help celebrate a great year of learning and fun in first grade! It would be a shame to miss out on this experience.

As of right now (Wednesday evening), we are still going on the bike ride tomorrow, June 3rd, as originally planned. However, if the weather does not cooperate, we will go on the trip on Friday, June 4th at the same scheduled time (leaving school at 10:30 a.m.). This would not have been possible without our amazing parent volunteers. Thank you!

You will receive a call around 8:00 a.m. on Thursday morning (June 3) if we decide to cancel the trip. If you do not receive a call, assume our trip is happening tomorrow. THANK YOU FOR HELPING TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN!

Chicks!

Here are some photos from our time with the chicks outdoors last week. They went back to the farm at UVM on Tuesday. We got the eggs from the farm, so they are back home! :-)
