Lots of reading...

Reading is (of course) central to much of what we do in first grade. First Grade=Reading and Reading=First Grade! We LOVE books!!! Here are some snippets from our daily classroom reading.

This student is showing off some of our most recent class favorites--the Poppleton series by Cynthia Rylant and the Elephant and Piggie series by Mo Willems. Great stuff!
In preparation for fall conferences and report cards, I have been conducting assessments of everyone's reading.  I have been able to conduct most of these assessments out of the room, since Miss Heney is doing a lot of solo teaching lately.
Students have new reading partners as of this week. It is very exciting! I asked students to think about what makes a good reading partner. They then privately gave me three names of students they thought would make good reading partners. Partner reading has been very successful with our new buddies!
Our class is very fortunate to have many parent volunteers who come in for reading each week. Students should be bringing home a book in their fabric book bag about once or twice per week. Please send the bag back to school just as soon as your child reads it to you at home. Thank you!
